This is your last news to see this monthBrowse without limits and enjoy opinions, new sections and exclusive benefits for €6.95 per month.Already a subscriber?Log inYou have news to see this monthYou have 1 news left to see this monthGet uninterrupted access to all content for just €6.95 per month.Already a subscriber?Log inLeire Iglesias: "If the line wasn't ready, it shouldn't have been opened"José María Fernández and Pablo Ruiz, from The Glow, in the workshop./ TODAYThe Iberian Film Festival is celebrating its twenty-eighth edition and, in collaboration with the Extremaduran animation studio The Glow Animation, has organized the 'Stop Motion' workshop, also known in Spanish as volume animation or frame-by-frame animation.'Stop motion' is a technique that tries to recreate movements with static objects through various photographs.The activity began last Tuesday at the Meiac and will end this Friday, July 22.Pablo Ruiz Sánchez is one of those in charge of the workshop.He works as 'studio manager' at The Glow and is responsible for The Glow Animation Academy, a section dedicated to training.Ruiz explains that in these four days he teaches them how to do 'stop motion' with a mobile application.This technique is the most appropriate for children because it is a very simple application to use and they learn concepts related to animation.24 children divided into two groups participate in the event: the first from 9 to 11 years old and the second from 11 to 13 years old.Ruiz indicates that he cannot admit more than 12 children per group since it would be more complicated to teach them.In yesterday's session with the group from 8 to 11 years old, they were learning how to use the application from their mobile phones, which they had to bring from home.With tripods, plasticine balls and toy cars they were creating their own animated videos.With the plasticine balls and the cars they created a scene in which they seemed to move on their own.To do this, they took several photographs of the objects in question and moved them little by little with respect to their original position.In this way they created the sensation of movement by viewing the photos consecutively.The difference between one group and another is minimal according to Ruiz."In the group of 9 to 11 years old we focus the activity in a more dynamic way so that they are entertained and on the other hand, the group of 11 to 13 have some concepts learned so we go faster", adds the monitor.Ruiz comments that "the children leave happy and sometimes they come with videos already made from home."Rafael Rosado, one of the parents of the participants.He confirms that the children have been very entertained.«The theme of animation through mobile phones is very attractive to them and that they know how to make animations without any knowledge seems interesting to me».He declares that it is a way to connect with new technologies from a different perspective than with social networks or YouTube.Rosado admits that they learned about the activity through a publication on social networks and that it seems good to him that they have focused the festival on children with these types of activities because "otherwise they could not have learned anything from this because my son is 9 years old."Pablo Ruiz affirms that it is a workshop that "promotes the creativity of children regardless of their age, it is very dynamic and interesting to help them explore the concerns they may have in this area."Also, it can be an inspiration for them to pursue animation."As a studio, we defend that idea in Extremadura because relatively recently it was almost unthinkable that someone would dedicate himself to cinema here in Extremadura, and now, although it is difficult, little by little we want to train those who come after."Rosado does not know what his 9-year-old son is going to dedicate himself to, but what he does know is that they will sign up again next year.The Glow Animation is an animation studio created by the production company Glow, which is based in the Innovation Factory of the Global Entrepreneurship Space in Almendralejo.According to Ruiz, one of the main objectives is to train artists from the region with the Academy section, both in Extremadura and throughout Spain.His first feature film was 'Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles', which had four Goya nominations in 2020 and won Best Animated Film.The Glow was at the Iberian Film Festival last year with the same workshop and in Almendralejo with the Film Caravan last June.This year they have given courses in Las Hurdes, at the Jerez School of Arts and also in their studios.
